Osher spring classes for adults over 50 begin April 11

Nearly 50 classes with varying topics are being offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for people who are at least 50 years old. Classes begin April 11, with a preview session offered Monday.

Cobblestone architecture, ancient shipwrecks, and space junk are just some of the nearly 50 classes offered this spring by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Rochester Institute of Technology.

In-person classes are resuming, however many are available via Zoom to accommodate those not yet comfortable in an in-person setting or not in the Rochester area. Class participants have joined in previously from as far away as Nigeria and Thailand.

The classes, open to anyone who is 50 years of age or older, are held weekly, from one to 10 weeks, starting on April 11. Each session lasts up to two hours. The cost is $100 if participants register for one quarter, or $335 for unlimited classes the entire year.

An online course preview session is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, which will introduce attendees to the institute and provide highlights from a few of the spring courses. Visit the online catalog for preview meeting information and passcode.

In addition to in-person classes, “Creative Collision,” an arts and lectures event, is planned at 2 p.m. April 29 in Robert F. Panara Theatre in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall. The show features PUSH Physical Theatre and the Grammy-winning Ying Quartet. The show is free for members and their guests.

And summer lectures and seminar trips have also returned this year, with four trips scheduled to Corning, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Seneca Lake, and Buffalo.
