    Joyce Chu, first-year psychology major from Brooklyn, N.Y., got cozy in the Reading Room and tasted the concept of hygge. During RIT’s International Education Week, students could experience a Danish lifestyle in the Hygge Lounge with comfy chairs, donuts, hot chocolate and crafts. Students could BYOB (bring your own blanket) to add to the feeling of contentment and well-being that is the foundation of hygge.

    Twenty-five student-athletes and library staff from Rochester Institute of Technology read with the entire first-grade class at John Williams School No. 5 on Nov. 9 for the 11th annual Giant Read. At the end of the event, each child received a book to encourage further reading. The RIT volunteers have been visiting School No. 5 weekly, helping students from pre-K programs to the third grade learn to read as well as providing mentorship opportunities and assistance in the classroom.

    Sam Feck, a first-year graduate student in experimental psychology from Rochester, N.Y., practices biofeedback with Rebecca Houston, assistant professor in psychology. The second annual "Breathe: a midterm stress relief event for psychology students" included Information about biofeedback, nutrition, relaxation techniques and RIT resources for stress relief. Yoga classes and chair massages were available. The activities were hosted by the Psychology Peer Navigators, the Psychology Department and the Division of Student Affairs.

    RIT/NTID helped make voting more accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing voters at the new on-campus polling place in the Gene Polisseni Center by providing interpreters throughout Election Day. Among those voting was Jasmine Archer, majoring in administrative support technology in the Business Studies Department from Bronx, N.Y. Providing interpreting support is Cynthia Collward from NTID’s Department of Access Services.

She met with members of the RIT community and gave a talk on “Power, Perception and Prejudice.” The RIT Inclusive Excellence team in the College of Science hosted the event with many campus partners.
