RIT’s College of Art and Design prepares to open a new gallery space in historic Sibley Square in downtown Rochester. The new RIT City Art Space, opening later in the year, will be located at 250 E. Main St. on the first floor of the Sibley Building. It will add a new art, educational and event spot to downtown.

Actress Mayim Bialik, best known for her roles on the television shows Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, is the Student Government Distinguished Speaker at RIT’s Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend.

Jenny Fleiss, co-founder of Jetblack and Rent the Runway, was this year’s speaker for the sixth annual Saunders College of Business Gasser Lecture. Fleiss’ talk, “The Dress is just the Beginning” focused on the concepts of intrapreneurship and experiential marketing.

RIT celebrated its 50th year at the Henrietta campus during a rededication ceremony today. The ceremony included musical performances, historical videos and community speakers, including honorary chair of the 50th anniversary Bill Buckingham ’64 (business administration), Board of Trustees Chair Christine Whitman and RIT President David Munson.

Deputy Monroe County Executive Tom VanStrydonck proclaimed Oct. 19 Rochester Institute of Technology Day in Monroe County. A joint resolution was also presented to RIT by Assemblymember Harry Bronson and Senator Patrick Gallivan, on behalf of the N.Y. State Senate and Assembly delegations. And RIT alumnus and Henrietta Town Supervisor Stephen Schultz ’89 (computer science) announced a new scholarship for students from Henrietta.

In 1968, RIT moved from downtown Rochester to a new campus, nicknamed ‘Brick City’ in Henrietta. In 50 years, the university has grown from about 8,000 students to nearly 19,000.

Representatives from more than 50 local and national corporations, federal agencies and nonprofit organizations met with hundreds of deaf and hard-of-hearing students for co-ops and jobs at RIT/NTID’s 18th annual Career Fair on Oct. 17.

Daniel Randall (’04 metals and jewelry design) visited RIT Oct. 16 to give a lecture and a demonstration to undergraduate and graduate students in metals and jewelry design. Randall is a professor of art and oversees the metals and blacksmithing concentration at the Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech University.
