Publisher, editor of ‘Metropolis’ magazine to talk

The longtime publisher and editor of Metropolis magazine, widely considered the most important and respected critical outlet for architecture and design in the United States, will speak at RIT this week as part of the Design Conversations Vignelli Legacy Lecture Series.

Susan S. Szenasy, who has led the award-winning, New York City-based magazine devoted to architecture and design since 1986, will deliver the Vignelli lecture at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, inside University Gallery at Booth Hall on the RIT campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

According to R. Roger Remington, the Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design at RIT, Szenasy will deliver the lecture “in a unique theater-in-the-round style that will be interactive” with the audience.

“We are very pleased to have Susan speak as the final Vignelli lecture for the academic year,” Remington said. “She is truly one of the genuine innovators in the design industry.”

Szenasy has led Metropolis and its other media platforms through decades of landmark design journalism, achieving domestic and international recognition. She is a pioneer in connecting design with environmental stewardship, and a tireless advocate for human-centered design.

A book of her writings and talks, each representing her active voice and under the title Szenasy, Design Advocate, was published recently by Metropolis Books/DAP.
