Recent Graphic Design alumnus achieves 'dream job' as art director

Jonathan Conrad '18 (Graphic Design) was on a design team for several editions of Vogue Italia.

Jonathan Conrad has made quite the impact on the industry since graduating from RIT’s Graphic Design program in 2018.

From designing a store set for French fashion designer Christian Louboutin to completing design work for several issues of Vogue Italia magazine, Conrad has led a busy professional life, and doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.

“Working for Louboutin and Vogue was awesome experience and it changed the way I looked at myself as a designer,” he said. “A big portion of those opportunities came with a willingness to advocate for yourself and your talent. It’s a hustle. It’s fun.”

Conrad has already established himself as a designer with an impressive resume since graduating from RIT.

He was a senior designer at V, a fashion magazine based in New York City, before moving on to pop culture magazine Paper. This summer, Conrad was promoted to senior art director at Paper — which he refers to as his “dream job.”

“My big career goal was to become an art director for a magazine or design firm by the time I was 30 and I got that; I’m not even 30 yet,” Conrad said. “It’s all about working hard and having a true passion for what you do.”

Conrad said he will now work to grow his own team of designers at Paper and hopes to continue to spread his influence in the world of design, fashion and editorial.

On his time in RIT’s Graphic Design program, Conrad said he was surrounded by motivated students and faculty who inspired each other to aim high.

“It was a good group at RIT,” Conrad said. “Everyone is creative and does what they love. You strive for your goals, show off your talent and eventually make it happen. It’s been a wild ride.”
