RIT Alumnus Provides Snapshot of Presidential History
The photograph of President Barack Obama on the cover of the latest issue of Newsweek magazine was shot by Kwaku Alston ’94 (photo illustration).
“Being a part of this momentous campaign is a career highlight,” says Alston. “It’s not often that our images become a record of an important time in history. Some of the images now have a life of their own, and have been embraced by the public. It has been an incredible experience.”
Alston—known for his creative photographic portraits of celebrities— has photographed some of the who’s who of stars including Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith and Matt Damon.
Alston returned to his alma mater in the spring 2006 as the keynote speaker for College of Imaging Arts and Sciences’ Point A to Point B Conference aimed at helping students launch their careers.
