RIT Beverage Break Program Now Underway
Initiative aims to encourage interaction between students and faculty/staff
RIT’s Office of Upper Class Initiatives in the Division of Student Affairs has created a new program on campus to encourage healthy interactions between students and faculty/staff. The Beverage Break Program is now underway and will run through spring quarter while supplies last.
Here’s how the program works: Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to pick up a beverage token at one of 11 locations across campus. Participants take the token—along with a student or faculty/staff guest of their choice—to campus venues to redeem it for a free beverage. Student or faculty/staff hosts will be asked to pay for the additional beverage.
“This is a great way for students and faculty/staff to reach out to one another in a casual atmosphere,” says Mike D’Arcangelo, director of the Office of Upper Class Initiatives. “These gatherings can be useful to talk about upcoming projects, research opportunities, grades or just to relax and touch base about the stresses of college life. Student-faculty/staff connections are vital in helping to improve our retention rate across campus, and keep students involved and engaged. Ultimately, it’s about increasing quality of life and increasing satisfaction—for everyone.”
Token pick-up locations are: Department of Hospitality and Service Management, First-Year Enrichment and Orientation Office, NTID Student Life Center, Wallace Library circulation desk, Center for Campus Life, the student services offices of Saunders College of Business and Kate Gleason College of Engineering, and the dean’s offices in the colleges of Liberal Arts, Science, Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, and Imaging Arts and Science. 2 They are also available at various departments including: civil engineering technology and environmental health and safety management; electrical, computer and telecommunications engineering technology; manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology/packaging science; and the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies.
Participating venues accepting the tokens include: Artesano’s, Beanz, College Grind, Control Alt Deli, Crossroads Café, Java Wally’s, Ritz Sports Zone and Davis Dining Room in the Student Alumni Union cafeteria.
