RIT ‘Brothers’ Band Together for Charity

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Phi Kappa Psi is raising funds for the Fisher House Foundation, a charity that provides housing for injured military personnel and their families away from home. The fraternity is selling wristbands and hopes to raise $6,000 in donations.

The wristbands are camouflage and say ‘Support Our Troops’. They can be bought around the RIT campus and at off-campus locations listed online at www.wristbandsfortroops.com. There is a minimum $1 donation to purchase a wristband, but the brothers hope people will be generous, explains Bryan DiCarlo, president-elect of Phi Kappa Psi.

“We wanted a way to help support our troops, and Fisher House is a really great charity,” says DiCarlo. “Some people have been willing to pay $5 or $10 for the wristbands, and that really makes a difference.”

The fraternity received funding from RIT’s Student Government to buy 5,500 wristbands. They have already sold about 1,000 and will keep the campaign going until they sell out.

Phi Kappa Psi, who also organizes RIT’s annual Mud Tug fundraiser, hopes to supplement the wristband sales by hosting other events in the near future with proceeds going to Fisher House.
