RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences hosts “Battle Royale” this weekend.

Winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology is almost over—but the fun is just beginning for first-year computer science students in RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.

Ten weeks worth of work will come to a head at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Golisano College Auditorium when students engage in the department’s first “Battle Royale.” Each student in the Data Structures for Problem Solving class has built a program that is capable of completing the “Amazing Labyrinth” board game. Each class held a preliminary competition, with the top performers advancing to Saturday’s competition.

Onlookers will watch the programs compete against each other in a tournament-style format to determine which is best. The winner will receive a $200 Barnes & Noble gift card.

“We will project the games on the wall so that the human observers can follow along,” says Paul Tymann, chair of the computer science program. “It should be a lot of fun.”
