RIT Fraternity Helps Local Organization Through Series of Charity Events

We’ve all heard the phrase, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” The brothers of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Phi Kappa Psi fraternity hope this statement also holds true when it comes to asking the RIT and Rochester communities to help support its struggling youth.

The fraternity is hosting a fundraising event 5-9 p.m. Feb. 15 at Five Guys Famous Burgers & Fries, 1100 Jefferson Road. Twenty-percent of sales made that evening will be used to bring young people from the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester to RIT to experience Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival on May 7.

“We wanted to be able to bring members of the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester to RIT’s Imagine Festival so they can see all that higher education has to offer and help support their aspirations of attending college,” says fraternity member Nicolas Sawicky. “Helping out the Rochester community strengthens our bond with the city we love and fills us with the great joy you get from serving others.”

The fraternity is also hosting its third annual Winter Banquet 6-9 p.m. Feb. 12 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center. This year’s proceeds will also be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester. Last year’s banquet raised more than $2,000 for RIT’s Sustainable House project.

The RIT chapter of Phi Kappa Psi strives to reach out to the Rochester community through both raising money and donating man-hours. Last year, the group donated 1,537 hours to community service and raised more than $8,100 for charity.
