RIT Freeze Fest Video Wins National Best Campus Tradition Award
Freeze Fest tradition showcases RIT’s school spirit
Say “hello” to Rochester Institute of Technology’s award-winning Freeze Fest video.
RIT’s Freeze Fest, an annual combatant to the winter doldrums held the first weekend in February, won the Best Campus Tradition Video Competition in the large-school category from the National Association for Campus Activities.
The association advances campus activities in higher education through a business and learning partnership. The video portion of the association’s contest showcases campus traditions highlighting school spirit at its best.
The RIT Center for Campus Life and College Activities Board’s 2011 award-winning video beat out submissions from the University of Southern California and the University of Nevada–Las Vegas in the finals. As winner, RIT received $1,000 to use for next year’s Freeze Fest and a free trip for College Activities Board to attend next year’s national conference.
“We created the video both as a celebration of the event and a way to showcase Freeze Fest to future students,” says Beth Crevlin, coordinator of marketing and event services.
The video, created by third-year illustration student Melissa Orioli, a member of the Campus Life Creative Team at the time and current member of College Activities Board, was selected as a top-three video in the large-school category—schools with more than 5,000 full-time undergraduate students.
Ryan Giglia, associate director of Campus Life programs, and five students from RIT campus life attended the 2012 national convention Feb. 25-29 in Charlotte, N.C., where they were announced as winners.
“We are thrilled to have been selected,” says Crevlin. “The award only adds motivation to continue the magic and excitement surrounding this unique campus event.”
