RIT Graduate Student Thesis Exhibition at SPAS Gallery

Photographic depictions relate to Biblical and scientific stories

Darwin by James Bellucci

Believe it or not, the Garden of Eden, Dante’s Divine Comedy and Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species, all have something in common.

RIT graduate student James Bellucci will showcase his photographic depictions of these Biblical and scientific stories in a thesis exhibition called Anecdotes—which will be on display from Jan. 9-24 at the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) Gallery at Rochester Institute of Technology. An artist reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16.

As Bellucci explains about his artwork for the exhibition, “I’ve created new renditions of existing narratives, but my inkjet prints will be displayed in ornate frames mimicking the style of grand narrative painting from the Renaissance.

SPAS Gallery, located on the third floor of RIT’s Frank E. Gannett Building, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and by appointment on weekends. For more information, call 585-475-2884.

The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology is the primary venue for photography in western New York.
