RIT Honored as a ‘Best College to Work For’ on The Chronicle of Higher Education List for 2009

Rochester Institute of Technology has been recognized in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2009 Great Colleges to Work For Program for a second year. RIT ranked among the top schools in six survey categories, including overall satisfaction with benefits, compensation and benefits, tuition reimbursement, 403(b) or 401(k) plans, disability insurance and life insurance.

“This is wonderful news not only for RIT, but for the Greater Rochester community where higher education is a major component of the economic engine,” says RIT President Bill Destler. “We are proud to be a university that attracts the best and brightest. This honor is a testament to our employees that make RIT a great place to work.”

The results were based on responses from more than 41,000 administrators, faculty members and staff members at 300 colleges and universities—triple the number of colleges involved from last year’s inaugural survey.

At RIT, the survey was completed in part by the college’s Human Resources department—specifically, Judy DeCourcey and Renee Brownstein, who also sent the survey to 600 randomly selected faculty, staff and administrators on the RIT campus.

The rankings differ from the Fortune magazine model, with a single list, says Brownstein. “Instead of institutional rankings there are multiple categories. We’re glad we ‘stayed the course’ being recognized again in six categories and really proud of the overall satisfaction with the benefits category,” she added.

The recognition appears in a special supplement of the July 6 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
