RIT honors its outstanding adult students

Annual event celebrates ‘balancing acts’ of adult learners

Rachel Garofolo, Corinne Palermo and Glenna Colaprete were recently honored as RIT’s Outstanding Adult Students.

RIT students Rachel Garofolo, Corrine Palermo and Glenna Colaprete have received the Outstanding Adult Student award. The award recognizes adult students and their achievements in successfully combining full-time college study with other adult responsibilities of family, career and community service.

Rachel Garofolo will graduate this month with a bachelor’s degree from RIT’s physician assistant program. While balancing a full-time caseload, including clinical rotations necessary for graduation, Garofolo earned a 3.67 GPA and welcomed a child in January 2011.

Corinne Palermo is working toward her bachelor’s degree in urban and community studies while working full-time as a closing specialist for the city of Rochester’s Bureau of Business and Housing Development and caring for her family. She has achieved a 3.42 GPA and is considering applying to law school or earning an MBA.

Glenna Colaprete, a graduate student in RIT’s professional studies program, began her coursework in 2006 and has earned a 3.92 GPA. She has also received an advanced certificate in RIT’s project management program. She balances her time among her community service outreach, taking care of her three children and her full-time job as a principal engineer at Verizon Wireless.
