RIT hosts Faculty Institute on ‘Unlearning‘
May 22 Faculty Institute focuses on ‘unlearning’ as a transformational process
This year’s Faculty Institute on Teaching and Learning is taking a rather different approach. In fact, the daylong conference—set for May 22—is entitled “Faculty Institute on Unlearning.”
“The idea behind this conference is that unlearning can be transformative,” said Lynn Wild, associate provost for faculty development and The Wallace Center. “By examining our current attitudes, beliefs and habits, we can better understand what may be holding us back from achieving our goals, and in the process, transform ourselves and our work.”
This is the 14th year that the Institute has been held. This year, the program features four speakers who will talk about their experiences in “unlearning.” The speakers are:
- Jack Uldrich: As global futurist, author and independent scholar, Uldrich is the founder and “chief unlearning officer” of The School of the Unlearning. Uldrich consults with organizations on strategic change.
- Dr. Bradford Berk: As CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center, Berk found himself learning about medical care from a different perspective, after suffering a spinal cord injury in a bicycle accident.
- Margaret Seidler: As an organization development consultant, master trainer and author based in Charleston, S.C., and one of only 12 certified Polarity Management Masters in North America, Seidler works to help professionals become more effective leaders.
- Lauren Dixon: As CEO of Dixon Schwabl, she has created a company culture that has resulted in her business being repeatedly recognized as one of America’s best places to work.
The program, set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 22 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center, 5257 West Henrietta Road, will also feature workshops and an expo with interactive displays on such areas as sustainability, wellness and work-life balance.
