RIT Hosts Information Session for Dislocated Workers on April 13

The U.S. unemployment rate remains well above 9 percent, and as a result of the declining U.S. economy, many American families have dealt with lay offs, lack of health-care coverage and skills that are now considered obsolete. Rochester Institute of Technology is addressing the needs of locally displaced workers by offering a program will help them get back on their feet.

The Dislocated Worker Information Session will be held 5:30-7 p.m. April 13, in the Bausch & Lomb Center on the RIT campus. The program is free and participants can register by visiting www.rit.edu/dislocated.

The session is particularly helpful to those individuals who are looking to add course work to a resume, update professional skills, complete a college degree or change career paths. Participants will also gather information about jobs in demand; skills that are essential in today’s workforce; accessing financial support; and learning about RIT’s tuition assistance program. There will also be a question-and-answer session.

“RIT has provided this service for several years, but in light of our nation’s recent economy, this program has become an even more valuable resource for the hardworking families in our region,” says Roch Whitman, senior associate director of RIT’s part-time and graduate enrollment services. “RIT is here to provide information—and hope—to those individuals who feel they need additional education to help them find employment in this record-setting down economy.”
