The cast of the 2011 The Vagina Monologues. The 2012 performance of The Vagina Monologues will take place 7 p.m. April 15 in Ingle Auditorium.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Rochester Institute of Technology and Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region are taking part by hosting V-Day Rochester 2012 to benefit the Rape Crisis Service and the 2012 V-Day National Spotlight, the women and girls of Haiti.

V-day consists of a benefit performance of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. The Vagina Monologues will take place 7 p.m. April 15 in RIT’s Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union, and will be ASL interpreted.

Now in its 14th year, V-Day and The Vagina Monologues have raised more than $75 million internationally in their efforts to raise awareness and end violence against women. Three-dozen women—RIT students and staff and Rochester community members—are involved with the production for the Rochester area this year.

“Being part of the production is transformative for the actors, the audience and for many who talk about it,” explains Cha Ron Sattler, associate director for the Center for Women and Gender. “The title certainly gets attention, but it’s the conversations that happen as a result that are so important.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and V-Day merchandise. Tickets can be purchased at the Center for Women and Gender Office at RIT, local Planned Parenthood locations, online at the Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York inc website and at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available for the general public for $20 and $10 for students and seniors. At the door, tickets will be $25 for the general public and $15 for students and seniors.
