RIT lowers flag in memory of adjunct professor
A memorial service for the late adjunct professor will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Interfaith Chapel
The RIT flag is being flown at half-staff today in memory of Edline Chun, whose many contributions to the School of Media Sciences, the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and to Rochester Institute of Technology will be celebrated at a memorial service later today.
The dean’s office also announced that the college is establishing a teaching award in honor of the late adjunct professor. The Edline Chun Award for Outstanding Teaching will be given annually to a CIAS adjunct professor who exemplifies excellence and dedication in teaching. The inaugural award will be presented during the 2013-14 academic year, according to Lorraine Justice, dean of CIAS.
“We are very saddened by the loss of Edline Chun, a very special person who will be sorely missed, but her legacy will live on with this award in her honor,” Justice says. “Edline was a dedicated and caring teacher who gave countless hours to her students, fellow faculty and staff friends. Whether it was a teaching day, or not, she was here and often late into the evening meeting with students, grading papers, or preparing assignments.
“In addition to her work here at RIT, Edline was active throughout the Rochester community through her involvement with various civic associations,” Justice adds.
A public memorial service for Ms. Chun is planned for 4:30 p.m. today inside the Interfaith Chapel at RIT’s Student Alumni Union.
Gifts in memory of Edline Chun can be donated to the Print Media Student Alumni Clubs Endowed Fund website. Donors can select “College and Programs” and under the pull down menu choose “Print Media Alumni Scholarship.” When making a donation, contributors are asked to note that the gift is being made in memory of Edline Chun in the comment box.
Ms. Chun was a well-respected and beloved faculty member who taught in CIAS for nearly two decades. Her colleagues in the School of Media Sciences described her as someone who “always went above and beyond to serve the students and the school with passion, integrity and the utmost class.”
Rochester police announced the arrest of two city residents in the slaying of Ms. Chun during a March 1 news conference.
