RIT to open second Croatian campus this fall

The Croatian capital city of Zagreb, where RIT will open a branch of its American College of Management and Technology this fall.

Rochester Institute of Technology this fall will open a second branch of its American College of Management and Technology in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb.

The new campus, opening in September with an expected 80 students, joins the college’s existing campus in Dubrovnik.

Classes on both campuses will begin on Sept. 5. Those in Zagreb initially will be held in a shared facility with the Croatian Catholic University. Renovations will be undertaken to a building on the Croatian Catholic University campus that will become the college’s permanent home in fall 2012.

Undergraduate degrees in information technology and international business and a graduate degree in service leadership and innovation targeting working professionals through evening and weekend classes will be offered on the Zagreb campus. The Dubrovnik campus offers undergraduate degrees in hospitality and service management and information technology; plans are under way to expand into other undergraduate programs. All courses are taught in English by American professors (including some from Rochester), along with Croatian and other international faculty.

“The Zagreb campus will provide RIT with a continental European presence that will be attractive for students from other European countries, particularly when Croatia joins the European Union in 2013,” says Donald Hudspeth, president and dean of the American College of Management and Technology since July 1999.

The American College of Management and Technology in Dubrovnik, which opened in 1997, celebrated its 13th commencement this year, graduating more than 110 students with bachelor’s degrees in service management. The college is the only dually accredited private educational institution granting both Croatian diplomas and American degrees accredited by the New York Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. About 400 students are currently enrolled at the Dubrovnik campus.

The Republic of Croatia’s largest city, Zagreb—ACMT’s newest location—is a business hub located in the northern part of the European nation. Dubrovnik, site of the college’s main campus, is a culturally rich tourist destination on the Adriatic Sea.
