RIT Performing Artists Concert Series Presents ‘Trombonanza’ Sept. 21

The 18th season of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Performing Artists Concert Series starts off with “Trombonanza,” a group of talented jazz musicians featuring four trombones and a rhythm section. The concert takes place at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 in RIT’s Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union.

Mark Kellogg, principal trombonist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, created this season’s opening performance to pay tribute to the great ensembles of famous trombonists J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding. Kellogg is also a faculty member at the Eastman School of Music with a diverse career that includes roles as a jazz soloist, chamber musician and orchestral performer.

The show features Paul Ferguson, Tom Brantley and Mark Kellogg on trombone; Lisa Albrecht on bass trombone; Christopher Azzara on piano; Michael Burritt on drums; and Dan Ziemann on bass.

Dubbed “A Season of Fours,” the series will also feature groups of pianists, vocalists and cellists later in the academic year.
