RIT recognized as top Fulbright producer

Rochester Institute of Technology was named a top producer of prestigious Fulbright scholars among master’s institutions for 2015-2016.

The list was released Feb. 22 by the Fulbright organization and published in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The Fulbright prize, one of the most prestigious in academic circles, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and promotes cultural exchanges with more than 140 countries. Three students from RIT earned Fulbright scholarships.

“RIT’s success as a top Fulbright producer is testimony to the quality of our students and the dedication of our university community who teach and work with them,” said Jeremy Haefner, RIT provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “These students are great ambassadors for RIT and help strengthen our global effort to forge stronger ties with people of other nations.”

The Fulbright competition is administered at RIT through the RIT Global Office. Similarly, 40 international students from 25 countries attended RIT this year through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.

“Over the past five years, RIT has had two Fulbright winners, so to have three at once is quite an achievement,” said Jenny Sullivan, assistant director of study abroad and fellowships. “We had 16 applicants this round and each of them was exceptionally qualified.”

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest exchange program in the country and provides funds for American students to live in another country for one year to teach English, conduct research or earn a graduate degree.
