RIT Student, YouTube Sensation Reveals What’s Next for Music Career
Kaitlyn Rosenblum talks about her recent brushes with fame
RIT student Kaitlyn Rosenblum (stage name Kait Weston), a second-year professional photographic illustration major from Buchanan, N.Y., has become a fan favorite with her Feb. 25 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and has a steady stream of viewers watching her every move on YouTube.
Rosenblum was invited to perform her version of Katy Perry’s song “Firework” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after winning a fan-vote contest on YouTube. The victory also enabled Rosenblum to work with a music producer who helped her find the road to Hollywood. Following her appearance, Rosenblum was able to briefly chat with the show’s host.
“Ellen DeGeneres was absolutely amazing,” says Rosenblum. “The whole experience on the show was unreal. It was all so fast. They grabbed me off the plane when I arrived in California, got me into hair and make-up and I went right into rehearsal for the show. The first time I met Ellen was when I walked onto the stage. She was awesome.”
Following her television appearance, Rosenblum was taken back to her hotel where she prepared for another memorable Hollywood moment—her first stroll on a red carpet for the OK! Magazine pre-Oscar party.
“My publicist arranged my red-carpet appearance,” she says. “There were a ton of photographers calling my name and telling me to look in their direction. They asked me who my favorite Oscar nominee was, but I didn’t know any of them. So, I just smiled and said that I liked them all.”
At the party, Rosenblum talked to reality television star Kendra Wilkinson who advised her to “not let Hollywood take away your sincerity.”
Rosenblum is working on recording another cover song—“Perfect” by Pink—and has a series of performances scheduled on Long Island.
