RIT Students To Provide Hot Meals To Needy Families for Thanksgiving

RIT students have a long tradition of collecting food and non-perishable items for families in need.

As most of the country makes plans to give thanks for good food and family, Rochester Institute of Technology students will be doing their part to provide hot Thanksgiving meals—with all the yummy fixing’s—to five Henrietta families in need.

RIT’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, coordinated by the Center for Women and Gender and the Community Service Center, provides turkeys and other non-perishable items to families who have been identified by the town of Henrietta. RIT students will assemble the care packages beginning at noon Nov. 17 in the Center for Women and Gender (located in RIT’s Campus Center), and they will make deliveries to the families Nov. 18.

“Every year we have a number of students representing various campus groups who donate their time to help provide meaningful Thanksgiving meals to those in need,” says Phyllis Walker, assistant director of RIT’s Leadership Institute and Community Service Center. “This year, we will give back to our local community and help five deserving families in Henrietta.”

In addition to gathering food donations throughout the residence halls and in other campus buildings, the RIT students also volunteer at town of Henrietta after-school programs.
