RIT Welcomes First Class of Rochester City Scholars at Ceremony Aug. 31
President’s scholarship program opens doors for 26 city school district graduates

Rochester Institute of Technology is welcoming its inaugural class of Rochester City Scholars into the university at a ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 31 at Liberty Hill, President Bill Destler’s residence, at 2201 Lehigh Station Road.
Twenty-six students from the district will enter RIT baccalaureate programs this fall through the Rochester City Scholars Program.
Last September, President Destler announced a scholarship program was being established for graduates of the Rochester City School District who would be admitted to RIT as freshmen. The scholarship program, for those meeting eligibility requirements, covers full tuition at RIT for these first-year students.
The Rochester City Scholars Program recognizes the importance of strengthening RIT’s support of, and relationship with, the Rochester City School District.
On hand for the ceremony will be the awardees and family members as well as Jean-Claude Brizard, superintendent of the Rochester City School District and Patricia Malgieri, deputy mayor of the City of Rochester.
