Last year's incoming students receive a rousing welcome to RIT during the annual Tiger Walk.

Nearly 3,000 first-year students will arrive at Rochester Institute of Technology Sunday, Aug. 24, kicking off a week’s worth of orientation activities that will launch another academic year.

Students will arrive between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. After checking in, they will spend Sunday moving into their residence halls and checking out the RIT Family/Student Resource Fair in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center.

Parents are invited to stay and participate in some of Monday’s orientation activities—which are highlighted by a convocation ceremony for new students and their families. The students will process into the ceremony during the annual “Tiger Walk,” where boisterous faculty and staff members line the walkway leading into the Field House to welcome them.

The first-year students are comprised of 2,799 freshmen—54 percent hailing from outside New York state—and 192 transfer students.
