RIT Welcomes Record Number of Employers at Fall Career Fair
Upheaval in the U.S. financial markets isn’t dampening prospects for students at RIT preparing for their transition into the job market.
On Sept. 24, the arena inside the Gordon Field House and Activities Center buzzed with activity as representatives from nearly 250 employers took part in the university’s annual Fall Career Fair.
Attendance marked a record for the number of employers taking part in an RIT career fair. Companies and agencies on site included Apple, Bausch & Lomb, Boeing, Fisher-Price, Hallmark Cards, Harris Corp., Honda, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, ITT Industries, Lockheed Martin, M&T Bank, Microsoft, PAETEC, Proctor & Gamble, Siemens, Toyota, Vicarious Visions, Wegmans Food Markets and Xerox.
RIT hosts two career fairs annually for its students and alumni. About 2,500 job seekers, exploring either full-time or co-op positions, turned out for this year’s fall event.
“It was quite a sight, and we’re happy so many students could learn about the various opportunities our employer partners have to offer,” states Manny Contomanolis, associate vice president for enrollment management and career services and RIT’s director of cooperative education and career services. “Just more than half of the employers attending the fair represent companies based outside New York state, reaffirming RIT’s growing national prominence.”
Many of the student and alumni participants were selected to return the following day for interviews with interested employers, while others have been invited to visit company facilities later in the school year.
