RIT well represented at American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meeting

Faculty from the Department of Chemistry and the School of Biological and Medical Sciences in the College of Science at RIT were well represented at the 15th annual American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meeting April 9-13 in Washington, D.C. Professors Paul Craig, Lea Michel, Suzanne O’Handley and Michael Savka brought several of their undergraduate research students to present their latest research findings.

Undergraduates Kimbria Blake, Daniel Bobo, Zack Bulman, Greg Dodge, Amanda Fisher, Breanna Kalmeta, Sebastian Ramirez, Alejandra Rizo-Patron and Joy Snyder presented research posters at the conference, both at the Undergraduate Poster Session and with the other scientists in the regular poster sessions.

Craig, O’Handley and Savka were judges for the Undergraduate Student Research Achievement Poster Session, where Kalmeta, a second-year biochemistry major, received an Honorable Mention award for her research poster. Fourth-year biochemistry major Sebastian Ramirez was inducted into the ASBMB Honor Society ΧΩΛ.

Fisher, Ramirez, Rizo-Patron, O’Handley and Craig received highly competitive travel awards to present at the conference. Dodge received a ASBMB Undergraduate Affiliate Network chapter travel award and was also featured in a short video on ASBMB’s Facebook page.
