RIT’s School of Print Media Launches News Media Initiative Web site
Web site serves as a repository for information about school’s news media program
As the newspaper industry evolves with the technology and needs of its readers, The School of Print Media at Rochester Institute of Technology has established a News Media Website. The goal of the site is to update students and industry partners about the School of Print Media’s ongoing programs.
The Web site includes information about the curriculum, student and faculty research, the Paul and Louise Miller Lecture Series and RIT’s strategic partnerships.
The School of Print Media has endowments from such industry partners as E.W. Scripps and the Gannett Foundation. RIT also has alliances with Gannett’s Democrat and Chronicle newspaper, the Newspaper Association of America and the International Newspaper Group.
The Paul and Louise Miller Lecture Series bring guest lecturers and presenters to campus to engage students about the future of the news media industry.
From a research perspective, The Printing Industry Center at RIT funds faculty and graduate student research. Some areas of research include newspapers and commercial printing, service diversification, distribution workflow, online newspaper, content streaming and repurposing and data asset management. Links to the research can be found on the Web site.
“We believe the Web site is key to remaining engaged with our industry partners, alumni and students about the changes happening in the newspaper industry,” says Twyla Cummings, Paul and Louise Miller Distinguished Professor at RIT. “The School of Print Media is reflective of the industry’s needs and the Web site is just one way to update our constituents.”
