RIT Student Government and the RIT Leadership Institute & Community Service Center, create a program to promote voting among RIT students this election

Tigers, your vote matters! College students are part of the 44 million eligible millennial voters, a demographic that when engaged can make a difference in elections.

With the 2012 presidential election upon us, Rochester Institute of Technology’s Student Government and the RIT Leadership Institute & Community Service Center have put together a series of events to get students interested and encourage them to vote.

“This is a bipartisan effort to make sure people are informed about the election and voting process,” says Angela Stallone, a fourth-year international studies major from Oneonta, N.Y., and director of programming for RIT Student Government. “We want to show RIT students that every vote counts.”

Through ROC the Vote, students are learning about the registration and voting process, while getting free T-shirts and goodies. On Election Day, Student Government leaders invite people to get in the political spirit with free red, white and blue cupcakes from 10 a.m. to noon in the Fireside Lounge.

For students registered to vote through their RIT mailing addresses, a free shuttle will take them to and from the polling site at the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center on John Street in Henrietta. The Voter Registration Bus service will run every 30 minutes from 2 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6., with stops at Grace Watson Circle, the Student Alumni Union Circle and the S Lot bus shelter.

The RIT community is also invited to watch election results, which start about 9 p.m., in Student Innovation Hall.
