Saunders College hosts two winter exhibitions in Lowenthal Hall

Come and meet the artists during opening reception Dec. 8

“Revealed,” by Fatma Alazmi

Two student exhibitions will be on display until March at RIT’s E. Philip Saunders College of Business. They are located in the Saunders Third Floor Gallery (Lowenthal Hall, top floor, North hallway) and the Saunders MP Gallery on the first floor, rooms 1225-1235.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Viewers are invited to come meet the artists of “Mediums” in the Third Floor Gallery—featuring nine works by three College of Imaging Arts and Sciences students. They include Edmond Caputo, second-year master of sculpture in the School of Art; Bri Kinard, second-year master of ceramics in the School for American Crafts; and Hannah Lightbody, fourth-year bachelor of fine arts studio in the School of Art.

The Saunders MP Gallery solo exhibition features five works by Fatma Alazmi, master of fine arts studio in the School of Art with a concentration in painting and sculpture. Alazmi says she uses a surrealistic style and uses elements of surprise and mystery to invite viewers to deeply interact with her work.

“Women’s issues have always interested me,” Alazmi says. “For this reason, the female figure often manifests in my painting as I reveal her pain, her concerns and ambitions. She is conveyed in unexpected juxtapositions and sometimes expressed among my dreams and fears.”

Curators for the exhibitions are Ashley Billings and Steve Caswell, College of Imaging Arts and Science graduate students working in conjunction with RIT’s Gallery r—which just opened its doors to a new gallery space at 100 College Ave. For more information, contact Shirley Wright at 585-475-6037 or swright@saunders.rit.edu.
