Saunders student receives outstanding senior award

Courtney Tennant, who graduates this May with a BS degree in new media marketing from Saunders College of Business, is the recipient of the RIT Outstanding Female Senior Award. Since 1996, the RIT Women’s Council annually grants the award to a graduating senior who demonstrates high scholarship and academic success in the face of personal challenges.

Tennant, who hails from Cortland, N.Y., is an honors student at RIT and ranked second in her graduating class. Graduate school is on the horizon; she intends to receive an MBA from RIT in May 2014—with a concentration in management information systems.

Nominated by Tom Traub, international adjunct faculty in the Saunders College, Tennant has been very involved on campus and is a member of the RIT women’s basketball team. She also overcame a major medical condition that never impeded her goals.

“Courtney’s dedication, leadership and performance in the classroom, honors program, on the basketball court, summer SIS project, Google Ad Award Project, and industry executive exploratory discussions in new media marketing show that she is well deserving of being the 2013 RIT Outstanding Female Senior Award recipient,” says Traub.

Tennant, who believes her specialties are communication, leadership and a willingness to learn, says she takes her student-athlete role very seriously.

“Being a student-athlete has allowed me to be a better time manager and vocal leader, whether it is on the court or in the classroom,” she says. “Post RIT, I would love to combine my passion for sports and my experiences from RIT to become a project leader or marketing executive at a sports company such as Nike, at a marketing agency, or continue with the game I love and coach college basketball.

“

I believe that passion is a gift, and when you have a passion for something, you should never let it go—build it into your work so you will never have to work a day in your life.

”

A small monetary award and certificate will be presented today to Tennant at the council’s annual spring luncheon at Rivers Run.
