Social Media Expert Offers a Taste of the 140 Characters Conference at RIT

Jeff Pulver and 140 Characters Conference hosts presentation on April 3rd

A unique opportunity awaits social media addicts at Rochester Institute of Technology. Jeff Pulver, one of the founders of Vonage, a VoIP provider, and founder of the 140 Characters Conference will present at 7 p.m. April 3 in RIT’s Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union, with a post-event reception in Fireside Lounge directly following.

Pulver chose to bring RIT a miniature version of the 140 Characters Conference prior to the larger-scale conference at Syracuse University. The original conference was designed to be a Twitter-themed event, but it has grown to discuss how the Internet is constantly changing lives.

The conference is unlike any other, following the format of its parent conferences in New York City and at Syracuse University. It consists of a series of rapid-fire individual presentations by both students and faculty members lasting 10 minutes each and a few panel discussions that will last between 10 and 20 minutes.

Coordinators for the event include RIT’s Department of Communication, the E. Philip Saunders College of Business, Division of Government and Community Relations, Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the RIT chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America.

Students attending the free RIT miniature conference are encouraged to attend 140 Character Conference on April 19 in Syracuse. Tickets for the Syracuse conference are $5 for students and $40 for the general public.
