Stephanie Kirschen Cole was an artist, painter, collagist and professor in the College of Imaging Arts and Science at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Her dream was to have a solo exhibit at RIT, and she had been planning it for more than a year. Sadly, she passed away at the end of May, but her dream to showcase her work didn’t.

The Dyer Arts Center at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf is hosting the exhibit “Stephanie Kirschen Cole, A Tribute in Celebration of Her Life and Art,” with a closing reception 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5.

“Whether I work on an intimate scale painted-collage or I work on a large scale, my concerns are for creating imaginary worlds, each with unique time and space frames,” said Cole, who described herself as an artist living with and beyond illness. “Found and created images take me on visual voyages that could be ancient or modern.”

A native of New York City, Cole was a beloved professor at RIT who promoted student projects with an interdisciplinary focus, often combining disciplines like art and engineering into her design courses.

NTID Dyer Arts Center, located on the RIT campus in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Building, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. For more information, call 585-475-6884 or go to the Dyer Arts Center website.
