Symposium on art, science of ‘reading digital’
Reading Digital Symposium kicks off April 27
As the masses trade in their books for tiny tablets such as Apple’s iPad and the Amazon Kindle, Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Print Media will examine the future of reading on digital technology.
“The future of reading is already here and it’s time to take a closer look at it,” says Charles Bigelow, Melbert B. Cary Jr. Professor of Graphic Arts at RIT’s School of Print Media. “It’s time for designers, scientists and the industry to examine the reality of digital reading, and that’s exactly what we hope to do with this event.”
The symposium, hosted by RIT’s School of Print Media, Cary Professorship, Cary Graphic Arts Collection and Vignelli Center for Design Studies, will include presentations and lectures from designers, scientists and industry leaders regarding digital reading.
Presenters will examine various topics such as digital typography, low-vision digital reading, design for digital displays and many other digital reading topics.
The symposium costs $75 for the general public and is free for RIT students, faculty and staff. Registration is required. Cost of the event includes breakfast, lunch and a catered reception.
