Tutor for Hire offers academic support

RIT students seeking some academic support have a new venue to try — Tutor for Hire.

The website, operated under the auspices of RIT’s Academic Support Center, allows RIT community members to go online to offer their tutoring skills or find a tutor in their desired subject area. The process is as simple as creating a free profile and ads to offer or request help. Rates for tutoring services are negotiated between the student and the tutor.

“Within days of publicizing the site, over 120 different tutoring opportunities were posted, from Anatomy & Physiology to Chinese Language to Managing Corporate Assets & Liabilities,” says Colette Shaw, from the Academic Support Center. “The feedback we’ve heard from students has been very positive and we’re excited at the potential of this service.”

Laura Rolston, tutor training graduate assistant in the Academic Support Center, says Tutor for Hire supplements services already offered in important ways.

“We like the idea that we’re filling a gap,” Rolston says. “This works for students with more unusual majors, for students whose majors don’t have tutoring centers and for students who may not be able to get to a tutoring center during traditional hours.”
