U.S. News & World Report Ranks RIT Among Top Master’s Universities
University also rates in “Great Schools, Great Prices” listing
Rochester Institute of Technology is again recognized for educational quality and value in the annual U.S. News & World Report: America’s Best Colleges. Since the magazine began ranking colleges in 1983, RIT has consistently been listed among the top regional universities.
RIT ranked ninth in the “Best Universities – Master’s (North region)” category. RIT also received the second highest peer assessment score, which is a survey of presidents, provosts and deans from other universities judging a school’s academic excellence.
In the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category, RIT ranked fourth among master’s universities in the North, up from fifth place the previous year. The formula used to determine which schools offer the best value relates to a school’s academic quality to the net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of financial aid. The higher the quality of program and the lower the cost, the better the deal, according to U.S. News.
In the “Programs to Look For” category, RIT was listed as one of only 18 colleges nationally recognized for excellence in the “internships/cooperative education” category. RIT has been on this list every year since U.S. News began the category in 2002.
RIT is also recognized among the top 64 undergraduate engineering programs among universities nationally where the highest degree is a doctorate. In 2003, RIT launched its microsystems engineering Ph.D. program, the first of its kind in the nation. In addition, RIT ranked at 57 in the category of "undergraduate business programs."
“The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings are a helpful guide for many prospective students,” says RIT President Bill Destler. “We’re pleased to be recognized once again as one of the nation’s foremost universities.”
RIT: U.S. News Rankings
In July, RIT was featured as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education in The Princeton Review’s annual guide, The Best 371 Colleges. The Princeton Review also included RIT among the top 20 colleges and universities for “best career services.”
“RIT offers a student-centered, career-focused education that will lead to a real job,” says Destler. “RIT is the place where right-brainers and left-brainers meet—where the arts and technology collide. The university is receiving increased recognition for its unique range of academic programs, including science and technology, business, and design and the arts, combined with the outstanding programs of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. RIT is progressing to a position of even greater prominence in international higher education.”
