‘WE Lead’ Online Leadership and Sustainability Program Launches Second Year

Registration has opened for the WE Lead: Women, Leadership and Sustainability Program sponsored by Rochester Institute of Technology. WE Lead is a six-week online course designed for young women in grades 10–12 to develop critical leadership skills. It takes place July 4–Aug. 17.

The course was developed by WE@RIT, the Women in Engineering program in RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering, and the RIT Leadership Institute to help young women develop leadership, decision-making and interpersonal communication skills.

There will be online conversations, readings, videos and blog posts as part of the program. Each of the six modules will be open online for two weeks. Topics include defining leadership, sustainability, cultural leadership and ethics.

Program faculty includes Margaret Bailey, professor of mechanical engineering and founding director of the WE@RIT program; Mary-Beth Cooper, RIT senior vice president for student affairs; and Molly McGowan, director of the RIT Leadership Institute and Community Service Center.

“The program allows students to learn more about what a leader is and what type of leader they are,” Bailey says.

The cost for the program is $200. The course textbook is Leadership Theory and Practice.
