New Article Published in Cognition
Delighted to announce a new publication co-authored with Chloe Stoll. Sign language experience redistributes attentional resources to the inferior visual field has been accepted for publication in Cognition. Dr. Stoll used a visual search paradigm to compare deaf signers, hearing signers, and hearing non-signers on the efficiency of visual search in the superior and inferior visual fields. She then used a Bayesian hierarchical drift-diffusion model to characterize the underlying psychological processes giving rise to the observed RT distributions. The article’s conclusion is that sign language experience drives increased attentional resources to the inferior visual field, with these effects stronger in deaf individuals but detectable in hearing signers also.
