Conducting the Work of PEN in Japan
National Tsukuba University of Technology (N-TUT), Japan has been a network partner since year one (2001) of the PEN-International project.
Within two months of signing a memorandum of understanding with PEN-International, N-TUT faculty members were trained to use educational and information technologies to educate students who are deaf. These newly acquired skills were applied immediately to the classroom.
In project year five, N-TUT and 12 other Japanese Universities spearheaded efforts to form PEPNet-Japan, a Postsecondary Education Program Network in Japan. The focus of PEPNet-Japan is to improve efforts to support deaf students within mainstreamed universities.
