College of Science Distinguished Speaker focuses on alternate energy sources Oct. 28
Nancy Jackson discusses solar irradiation as a possible fuel source
Imagine the convenience of being able to fuel your automobile with solar energy.
Nancy Jackson will present “Sunshine to Petrol” as part of RIT’s College of Science Distinguished Speaker Series at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 in RIT’s Carlson Auditorium in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science. A reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Jackson has served as president of the American Chemical Society since 2009. She also serves as manager for the international chemical threat-reduction department at Sandia National Laboratories and as a research associate professor at the University of New Mexico in the department of nuclear engineering.
Jackson’s research involves taking solar fuels and using them to re-image the fuel efficiency paradigm in transportation. These solar fuels are created from sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide and are sufficient enough to meet the predicted demand for global energy.
Her lecture will address the materials and underlying engineering challenges faced in this process and current strategies and research being done to address these issues.
