Connect is a group of students from RIT’s College of Art and Design who
work to connect prospective and current students, staff/faculty, and alumni with
what is going on in the School of Media Sciences.

Fonts from your Fingertips

Fonts from your Fingertips is a collaborative student project developed by students in RIT’s School of Media Sciences, School of Design and Computer Science Department to showcase student innovation for Rochester Institute of Technology’s 2012 Imagine Festival. The project was designed in an effort to create a fun and educational experience where visitors to the exhibit could learn about type, font creation and its history at RIT and the School of Media Sciences. Visitors to the exhibit were able to create their own font from their handwriting that could be installed on their home computer and used. The font is created through a HTML5 web app which records images of each drawn letter and converts those images into a TrueType font. This project has since been exhibited at the Wegmans’ LPGA and other RIT sponsored events.

PawPrint

PawPrint is a collaborative student project developed by students in RIT’s School of Media Sciences, School of Design and College of Computing and Information Sciences to showcase student innovation for Rochester Institute of Technology’s 2013 Imagine Festival. The project was designed in an effort to create a fun and educational experience where visitors could learn about variable data and publication automation. Visitors to the exhibit were able to create their own children’s book customized based on user input through a website. The book creation is fully automated through ExtendScript and InDesign and a PERL script sends the book directly to PDF or print, so the visitor receives their book nearly immediately after completing the web form. This project has since been exhibited at the Wegmans’ LPGA and other RIT sponsored events.
