Creative Writing and Real-World Work Experiences Prepare English Student for Career
Rich Kennedy is an RIT English and journalism double major, who fell in love with creative writing as a child. His passion for creating characters and stories led him to enroll in English courses focused on poetry and prose.
“Creative writing has always been something that I've enjoyed, whether it's writing poems or writing stories. Even when I was like eight years old, I was creating characters and stories and plots,” he said.
When Rich first began taking courses at RIT, its English major was still being created, but he was drawn to it as soon as he could add it as a double major.
Putting both his journalism and creative writing talents to work, Rich did his co-op with the Government and Community Relations office at RIT, where he worked as a marketing coordinator to promote Brick City weekend, among other events.
Rich also served as the team liaison for Signatures, the student-run art and literary magazine that is a collaboration between the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Art and Design, with the support of the Office of the Provost. Additionally he was active with the creative writing and performance club Wordsmiths.
Favorite classes? “I have different ones for different reasons. I’d like to share all of them, they’re all good,” said Kennedy.
