Design Thinking Workshop for Students Grades 5-8, Snyder, New York 2016

My colleague Carol Fillip works with Christ the King School in Snyder, New York, creating after school workshops in art, music, theatre arts, photography and design to supplement the school curriculum.

Designed for students in grades 5-8, these workshops provide opportunities for children to interact with experts and to experiment with materials, processes and techniques with which they do not have access in school.

For this workshop, I enlisted the energetic leadership of RIT ID Graduate Students Michael Kelly and Elizabeth Stegner to help guide participants through the process of Learning, Thinking, Making and Presenting.

The problem given to the participants was to create a new design for sunglasses that would address a specific need, as determined by each team.

At the end of the two hour workshop,
all teams presented their inventive concepts, and Liz and Michael selected the winning team.

A fun time was had by all!
