Interactive Design Project with Local Youth
From toymakers to pizza chefs, RIT graphic design students collaborated with local kindergartners to bring a collection of talented, friendly monsters to life.
Young students at Council Rock Primary School, taught by Sue Beato, specified defining attributes of their own “monster” — name, color, what they smell like, how they sound, what they love, and a special talent — and the RIT students designed the characters and their stories.
The group of furry friends includes the loud-talking Pete, snow-loving Cutie, and soft-spoken gardener Elsa. Each student in Assistant Professor Keli DiRisio’s Interactive Design III class was assigned a kindergartner to work with as they animated a monster and their environment based on the youngsters’ descriptors.
