Jakiria Williams
This painting, “Dreamgirl,” was done by Jakiria Williams ’20 (Fine Arts Studio).
“The female ‘singing’ group dressed glamorously — posed in an elegant and confident manner — suggests a sense of traveling back in time,” Williams said. “Inspired by the atmosphere of a black church congregation and the embodiment of the nightlife, together, it metaphorically illustrates a yearning for resurrection. By associating an entertaining night with the state of being vulnerable, my work ultimately explores the sacrifices we are willing to make for the future we crave.”
