Packaging Design / GRDE 431 Wegmans and ABVI Competitions
This was a challenging semester with two very different projects.
The first project was with our great sponsor, ABVI. The challenge to student teams was to select either a food item or a kitchen cleaning product and explore ways in which it could be made easier for everyone to identify, select, use and dispose of with sustainability in mind. Each of the 8 teams had a mentor from ABVI to assist in the design process. The final presentations were at ABVI with clients testing the products.
This was a very worthwhile and thought-provoking learning experience for everyone.
The second project was sponsored by Wegmans. The challenge in this competition was to design packaging for Wegmans Organic Greek Yogurt or Premium Orange Juice to increase audience appeal and to create a premium presence to compete with national brands. The 8 teams were asked by Wegmans to consider the buying decision and shelf impact, in-use considerations in the home, and issues such as shipping, inventory and sustainability. The top four winning teams received financial prizes from Wegmans for their efforts.
