This piece — "Vessel Study: Interior Friend" by Furniture Design MFA student Ryan Zimmerman — is one of a series of similar experimentations, in which he explored the organization and transition of components. He began designing and building the initial forms, inspired by industrial architecture, in wood and then cast plaster molds from them. The molds then served as building blocks that he could arrange in various compositions, to ideate three-dimensionally. The results were then slip cast in stoneware and soda fired.
