How did you learn about RIT?
I was in First Robotics in high school and every year we would come to RIT to compete. I still volunteer with them every year.
What’s the best thing about RIT?
I think it’s the diversity of the people. No matter who you are there’s someone that you can feel at home with. Being a part of different groups, I’ve been able to see a lot of different types of students. The really nice thing is, that no matter who you are, there’s always a club or organization, on campus, that you can join and feel at home at. For me in my first year I joined computer science house and I’m now on the e-board, and that felt at home.
You mentioned that you are on the e-board for Computer Science House, what else are you involved in on campus?
I work with New Student Orientation. I started as a leader and am now a supervisor. I’m also a part of the Supplemental Instruction program through the Academic Success Center and I serve as a Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences computer science ambassador.
You mentioned that you work with Supplemental Instruction. What do you enjoy the most about your work in the Academic Success Center?
It’s the people. The peers in the Academic Success Center, especially Supplemental Instruction, are very hardworking and motivated, and all of them bring a unique leadership experience. It’s very hard to not want to come back. I want to stay in the room during our weekly training and just talk to them for hours and hours at a time.
Also, the first-year students. Sometimes they struggle with a subject and it’s really amazing to see them grow from their first week in college and seeing where they end of up at the end of the fall semester. I really enjoy seeing them grow through that entire process.
What advice would you give RIT students?
I think the biggest thing is, find an organization, club, community, or whatever it may be, that makes you feel at home. RIT is definitely one of those campuses that has the ability to make anyone and everybody feel at home. There are so many different organizations. You can definitely find something, and when you do it makes your life so much easier. You always have someone else that you can hang out with and talk to. You spend your 4-5 years at RIT making lifelong friendships.
