Product Design Courses

The mechanical engineering technology product design option focuses on the primary areas of developing robust designs that are optimized for manufacturing, customer, and environmental conditions that the product will experience during its entire life cycle. This option is part of the mechanical engineering technology BS degree.

Product design courses begin in the third year of the mechanical engineering technology major. This ensures that you have developed the foundational engineering skills needed for specialization in more advanced courses on the principles of developing new, innovative designs. Courses in product design include: 

  • Fundamental principles on generating and formulating product ideas
  • Utilizing design for six sigma principles
  • Developing robust designs
