The National Institute of General Medical Sciences has awarded a grant to RIT that is expected to provide $1.025 million in funding over five years to develop a Scientists-In-Training Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Undergraduates. -

Stephanie Smith Albert has been named the first director of diversity and inclusion at NTID. She most recently was the director of student life at Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus, Ohio. -

Gary Behm has been named interim associate vice president for academic affairs at NTID and will oversee NTID’s academic departments, curriculum, course scheduling, degree certification, communication services and assessment, and faculty/staff professional development. -

RIT hosts summer undergraduate research programs
RIT leads universities in New York with seven federally funded summer research programs for undergraduate students. Eight to 10 students per program work with RIT researchers for 10 weeks. The newest Research Experience for Undergraduates program focuses on multimessenger astrophysics. -

NTID selected Katie O’Dell, a teacher at Neptune Middle School in New Jersey, for the 2017 Scouten Endowed Internship in English Literacy. Her internship took place in April at RIT/NTID.
